Great Day! Saturday

We headed to a town we have been dying to go to ever since we heard about it... Columbus IN.  Why? Well here is a snapshot:

Visitors to Columbus can see more than 70 buildings and pieces of public art by internationally noted architects and artists, including I.M. Pei, Eliel Saarinen, Eero Saarinen, Richard Meier, Harry Weese, Dale Chihuly and Henry Moore. To learn more about the architects, you may view a selection of short online videos.

So basically a town FILLED with Mid Century world renowned architects!  Sooo cool!  The Miller family was a prominent wealthy family that came up with the money to pay the architect fees and the city etc paid for the rest - cool concept.  The town also has a fantastic free indoor play area - perfect because it rained all day.  We had lunch at a soda shop that was first opened in 1900 and was on the COVER of National Geographic. All in all a fun outing.  Both boys (including Erik) fell asleep for a good 45 minutes in the car so must have been fun.

We had been invited to Stacy and Tony Kinser family's home from the local congregation that evening to play in their pool with their two boys - Logan and Carson.  Such kind kids!  They are a bit older - 10 and 8 i believe (sorry Stacy - I have been meeting so many kids!)... so obviously they had KILLER toys!  Dinosaurs, crawling tubes and the coolest bunk bed that their dad Tony made.  And remember - they have a pool!  I think Finn is getting used to this lifestyle here :).  Tony is the one who had a brain tumor 10 years ago when Stacy was 5 months pregnant with their oldest Logan.  They are also the one who recommended the Chinese Medical Doctor we went to visit in St. Louis a few weeks back (I don't think I ever got around to blogging about that trip - basically we drove on a Monday to see her round trip 10 hrs to be back at 1 AM for Elan's appt the next AM at 8 - LONG day).  They have been one of the kind families in the congregation here who have really taken an interest in Elan and us.  We have always known there is a true love among true Christians (as John 13:35 states) but having it happen to us is a remarkable thing!  So faith strengthening in all honesty.

Back to the evening...Stacy made the BEST pasta and chicken piccata - I need to get the recipe and just had an all around lovely time.  Elan had so much fun in the pool, with their dog and playing with their toys.  He is really doing so well the past few days.  He even has been walking with only one of our hands!  He did that once Thursday with me for about 20 steps but has been getting better every day since.  It is just so great to see him make additional progress.  His face is getting less facial paralysis.  THis is something that just happens (or doesn't happen) on its own.  You can't do therapy for it or anything so good to see it moving in the right direction again.

Elan has also been very interested in eating again too.  We gave him several "NO" cancer diet foods today but I just felt it was a celebration day so didn't care too much (but kind of do since writing that!).  He had mac and cheese - ate almost the whole bowl and several bites of ice cream at the ice cream parlor in Columbus.  He didn't cough or choke once!  He had been many times even a week ago on things like that.

All in all a fun (yet exhausting) day!  We ended the evening with the Kinser's by watching the new video released about the first century Christians leaving Jerusalem in 70 CE to the city of Pella.  Such an interesting video and really brought that account to life!
